Compare Google Pixel 8 Pro vs Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold
Which one is best for you?
Released a year apart, there are some key differences between the devices. As the name may suggest, the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is a folding device, with two Super Actua displays, an 8-inch internal display and a 6.3-inch external display¹. In comparison, the Google Pixel 8 Pro has one singular 6.7-inch Super Actua display¹ - check out our phablets page to explore the advantages of two screens.
Both devices offer a remarkably similar battery life. On both you'll enjoy a 24+ hour battery life² which is made possible by Extreme Battery Saver - this can extend battery life to up to 72 hours³,². The Pixel 8 Pro offers more capability when it comes to charging, benefitting from fast wireless charging⁴ and battery share⁵ - so you can charge another device. These two features are missing from the 9 Pro Fold, although it does have wireless charging⁴ (just at a lower speed). The 9 Pro Fold has slightly better RAM capacity at 16GB, in comparison to 8 Pro's 12GB. However, the 8 Pro offers more storage options - up to 1TB⁶ - in comparison to the 9 Pro Fold's 512GB. The 9 Pro Fold also benefits from Google's G4 processor, with the 8 Pro having the previous G3 generation.
Interestingly, the Pixel 8 Pro has a better camera system than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It features a 50MP wide camera, 48MP ultrawide camera, and a 48MP telephoto camera. The 9 Pro Fold has a triple camera system too, but it's less advanced (48MP wide, 10.5MP ultrawide, 10.8MP telephoto). Both offer up to 4K video recording and a similar front camera for selfies - the 8 Pro's is 10.5MP with autofocus, the 9 Pro Fold's is 10MP without autofocus. An advantage though of the 9 Pro Fold is its new AI features, including Video Boost and Super Res Zoom Video which gets you high-quality zoom up to 20x. It also comes with the new Pixel Studio app⁷, so you can create imagery through word prompts.
When you compare the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, they are two very impressive devices. With either phone you'll get a fantastic camera, long-lasting battery life, and similar performance. It comes down to whether you want a foldable phone like the 9 Pro Fold, and if you'll benefit from having two screens for multitasking and productivity.
